Locating a test

Pre-tests and posttests are located in the "Test Center". The list will show all of the pre-tests and posttests that you are eligible to take. Any tests that are currently in progress will also be noted on the list. If a video has any associated tests, a link to those tests and the current status of those tests will be shown on the Video Information page. Most web-based training courses also contain links to their tests. Depending upon the course, you will either be linked directly to the test or you will sent to the “Test Center” where you need to select the test from the list.

Taking a test

Once you have selected your test, you must accept the Integrity Statement by clicking the "Accept" button before you can start your test. You do not have to complete a test in a single sitting. The "Test Introduction" page will indicate how many days your test is valid if you need to stop before you have completed the test. This page will also indicate the minimum passing score for the posttest. Since pre-tests are designed to assess your current level of learning, there is no minimum passing score for a pre-test. Because of this, for many courses, you will need to complete the pre-test before you will be able to access the course materials.

Retaking a test

Whether you can retake a posttest will be based on the type of course that you are taking. For prerequisite courses, you will be allowed to retake the test as often as you would like in order to get a passing attempt. You should use the summary of your performance at the end of the test as a guide to the material that you should review (you may wish to print that page for reference.)

For classroom posttests, you generally have a maximum of two attempts to successfully complete the posttest within a two week period. Like a prerequisite course, you should use the test summary at the end of the test to determine the material that you should review. If you do not successfully complete the posttest at the end of the second attempt, the posttest will then be locked and you will not be allowed another attempt. The CMS Training Coordinator for this class will also be automatically notified that your test access has been locked. There will be a two week remediation period prior to the test being unlocked. You will then have an additional two weeks to complete the third attempt of the test. Failure to successfully complete the test within this second two week period will cause the test to automatically relock.

Note: because pre-tests are an attempt to determine your level of knowledge at the start of a course, they can never been retaken once completed.

Completing an evaluation

All video and many web-based training courses require a course evaluation to be completed before a course completion can be awarded. Evaluations can only be accessed from the "Video Information" page for a video course or the Course Menu page for a web-based training course.
