To register, you must have either a Federal Surveyor Id number or a CMS Learning Management System (LMS) number. If you do not have either of these numbers, ask your State Training Coordinator to obtain an LMS number for you.
If you have taken a course previously at the surveyortraining.cms.hhs.gov website, you are already registered and should use that account. Courses available through this Web site include Basic Health Facility Surveyor (BHFS), Principles of Documentation (POD), and Advanced Life Safety Code (ALSC).
All course completion records are transferred electronically to the CMS LMS using your Id number. Failure to enter your Federal Surveyor Id number / LMS number correctly could result in errors when transferring your completion record. Transferring a completion record to the LMS can take up to eight days. You will be notified via automated email if your completion record failed to transfer to the LMS. You should keep a copy of your printed completion certificate for your permanent record.
